Timothy R. Matson was appointed Fire Chief of the City of Rockledge Fire Department in October of 2015. He has been with the Rockledge Fire Department for 32 years and was chosen as Fire Chief for his experience and knowledge of the City as well as his experience in both the medical and firefighting fields within the department. Chief Matson began his career with the Rockledge Fire Department as a firefighter and rose through the ranks serving as an EMT, Paramedic, Lieutenant, Shift Commander and EMS/Logistics Chief within the department. He currently also serves in the capacity of an adjunct instructor with the Eastern Florida State College Fire Academy and instructs firefighter minimum standards. 

Chief Matson was born in San Diego, California and moved to Rockledge in 1971 at the age of 12 when his father retired from the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Rockledge High School in 1977 and upon graduation he served for three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Texas and Germany . Chief Matson returned to Rockledge in 1980 and was hired by the fire department four years later in 1984. Chief Matson currently holds Associates degrees in Fire Science and Emergency Medical Services along with a Bachelors of Applied Science degree in Public Safety Administration from St. Petersburg College. Chief Matson also holds numerous other public safety certifications within the fire and emergency services fields.

Chief Matson is also a member of the Brevard Police and Fire Pipes and Drums band where he serves in the capacity of the Drum Sergeant and a snare drummer. The bands main mission is to pay tribute and honor to law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty and as such plays at funerals and memorials throughout the State of Florida.
