The Rockledge Police Department is committed to the safety and security of all the citizens of Rockledge. The citizens and police are working together to form partnerships that are making the City a safer place for all. Community Oriented policing is a philosophy adopted by the Rockledge Police Department that stresses establishing these partnerships. Together the citizens and police fight crime and solve problems within the City. A major tool in this effort has been the development of Neighborhood Watch groups. There are currently 99 Neighborhood
Watch groups in the City of Rockledge with more on the way.
Neighborhood Watch is a citizen involvement program where neighborhood residents, in cooperation with R.P.D., directly participate in the detection and prevention of crime. Neighborhood Watch operates in two basic ways. First, the members of the NW group actively observe their neighborhood for any suspicious or criminal activity and notify police when either are seen. Second, the members utilize crime prevention measures to make the neighborhood safer for all. Neighborhood Watch adds extra eyes and ears that observe neighborhoods for criminal activity, and it empowers citizens to assume part of the responsibility for the safety of their neighborhoods. It works because numerous crimes have been averted and/or solved by the vigilance of Neighborhood Watch members!
